Welcome

"Walking in freedom is the essence of human dignity"

Walk On Moreland is creating a walking culture in and around the suburbs of Moreland. Through our actions we aim to make walking a safe, convenient, comfortable, friendly, dignified and enjoyable way to get from A to B in Moreland.

We have come together as a reaction to the dangerous, impolite, noisy, often angry, and unpleasant mix of roads, cars, and drivers which is all too common in Moreland.

We are a community organisation which works through community engagement, advocacy, and community action to progress our vision. We see as our stakeholders all those who are pedestrians in Moreland, with special mention for the elderly, young children & families, people who have difficulty walking long distances, and people using a wheelchair, shopping trolley, pram or other mobility aid.

While our primary focus is walking, we see this as one element in a suite of sustainable transport options, including cycling and public transport.  The solutions we promote are often actively supportive of other sustainable transport options.

We welcome everyone who shares this vision to join us.

  1. Great to see that this group has formed. Conditions for pedestrians in our suburbs are generally disgraceful after years of traffic engineers thinking that their job is to maximise the flow of private motor vehicles. We should be lobbying for the upgrading of footpaths through Moreland - the standard should be the "at level" footpaths which don't change level at intersections. And making it easy to cross roads. Good luck!
